Altered Cigar Box

Good morning to all my lovely blogging friends! Here is my first attempt at altering a cigar box.....totally botched it, tore off the papers and started over! This is the end result....not the best, but it's a learning experience. Thank you to my friend Dena for giving me some tips!!!! The papers are from from K&Company, but the gorgeous Santa is from the Kaisercraft St. Nicholas collection. The poinsettia and tree line dies are Magnolia and the star is from Memory Box. I was not able to cover the edges....tried gesso and gold paint, but due to the glossy surface, it would not stick! Would love to hear from you if you have any ideas you'd like to share with me.

I lined the inside of the box with K&Company papers, as well as the sides. Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Hugs!

  1. Hello Christina, I think your attempt is very successful! I love the antique look you gave to your box, love those papers very much too. I cannot see where you were not able to cover the edges, everything seems so so lovely to me. it will make a very appreciated gift. Altering is not so easy... I had my shares of disappointments also! Have a nice day. Hugs.

  3. Christina! WOW oh WOW!!! I love how you did it! The edges look fine from here. The papers are gorgeous! Your inside is as beautiful as the outside!!!! I really love it! These altered boxes are not the easiest, but like I said you learn from the mistakes each time you do one! This will go over like hotcakes at your family gathering!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Wowwwwwww! Sweet Christina! My goodness, this is INCREDIBLY GORGEOUS! Soooo love your altered cigar box! You did it! I'm so happy that Dena was able to give you pointers ... she's so AMAZING too like you! Wowwww, I'm taking in all the images and designs of the papers .. sigh .. absolutely GOR-GEOUS! Wow wow wow .. truly an AMAZING project!

Hmmmm .. I've never tried doing a cigar box before, so I don't know about the gluing. But have you ever heard of Beacon Fabritac Glue? I use that a lot, and it adheres to a lot of things very well.

From the looks of this photo, I would not even think this gave you a difficult time .. you've put this together so BEAUUUUUTIFULLY!

    Much Love,
    Elise

  10. Botched my foot - it my foot - your remake is fabulous. I love the Santas - wonderful and absolutely smashing! Chickadees are my most favorite bird and fortunately I have a lot outside my window. Again, the Santas you used are beautiful - gosh I love that man!
